Being selected to train as an Executive Coach at the BBC in 2009 was what set Barbara on her coaching path and she has never looked back. At the BBC I focused on coaching people stepping into leadership roles and, in the eight years that followed, extended my portfolio to include mentoring, workplace mediation, supervising other coaches and mentoring student coaches through their initial training programme.
After leaving the BBC I gained career coaching certification through ‘Careershifters’ and since then have worked with groups and individuals, helping them make significant changes in their careers. I underwent my own shift, leaving London and a career in digital technology in 2019 and relocating to South Devon to focus solely on my coaching practice. I now thrive in 4.5 acres with my husband, 3 dogs, 3 hens, 3 Shetland ponies, and a retired rooster. Oh, and an orchard and a very productive veggie patch.
More and more of my coaching clients are seeking, as I was, to re-find their purpose, motivation and energy following years, often very successfully, in a career that just no longer suits who they have become.
My favourite questions to ask my clients include “What makes your heart sing ?”; ”What are your natural talents?”; and ‘What do you know already?”
As Howard Thurman says:
“Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it. Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”
Causes close to my heart include sustainability, literacy, and walking for health.
