BACKGROUND

Jonathan’s facilitation and coaching draws from a 25-year corporate career in the technology and language industries. He originally trained as a software engineer, working for the UK MOD and gaining a first-class degree in Computer Science from Southampton University. Jonathan then worked for Hewlett Packard in the UK and US, leading software development teams. Joining Canon, he built an independent translation and web publishing services group serving Tokyo and EMEA, with more than 40 staff and its own P&L of £15M. Jonathan is a seasoned operations manager with broad experience including outsourcing, offshoring, site management and HR topics such as relocation, redundancy, TUPE and industrial tribunals.

COACHING EXPERTISE

Jonathan was trained by Canon as a mentor, coach and facilitator. He further studied for his Professional Certificate in Coaching at Henley Business School, achieving a distinction. His style is reflective, creative, straightforward and human. Jonathan is able to flex his approach – skilled at working one-to-one, he is also a strong group facilitator and an accomplished presenter to large audiences. He is a regular speaker at language industry conferences in Europe and North America.

OTHER INFORMATION

Voluntary work gives Jonathan the opportunity to engage with a wide variety of people. This has included leadership and facilitation in youth work, helping couples prepare for marriage, working with the traveller community and assisting vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals.

Jonathan is naturally curious, with wide interests in science, the arts and humanities. He has always enjoyed working in an international environment and is conversationally competent in Japanese (JLPT level 3) and French. When not working, Jonathan tries to stay in shape through various sporting activities and relaxes by playing rock/jazz saxophone with friends and amateur bands.
